Alexander van Bakel and Wouter Smit invite you to their upcoming exhibition "Signals from Paradise" where they will show their individual works "Paradise Found" & "Signals Unknown" alongside each other to explore the signals from the past, the present and a potential future; Paradise or Dystopia?

SIGNALS UNKNOWN
In his series of work ‘signals_unknown’, Wouter Smit sets out to rediscover the analog signal in its poetic significance, if not its mesmerizing magic. He simultaneously humanizes and mythologizes several media set ups, by transforming them by means of interaction, analog signal processing and digital data transduction by means of a stint of artistic alchemy.

PARADISE FOUND
Paradise Found offers the ultimate escape into a completely rational solar system where a cube of fixed proportions serves as a standard unit; a cosmological constant from which all planets are constructed. On each planet's surface endlessly iterating structures reminiscent to Piranesi’s imaginary carceri (prisons) entangle the spectator into a promise for a potential future.
