PK8 STUDIO AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam based PK8 STUDIO was founded by multi media artist Wouter Smit in 2015 and focuses on the development of audio-visual interactive art installations, decor setups, (digital) video production, performances and the realization of several art exhibitions in the field of the unstable media arts.
"For the creation of my work I am been greatly inspired by the ongoing developments in art, science, media and technology. Within my work I explore the relationships between the physical and the digital space by creating contemporary art installations, digital print works and data driven light and sound sculptures. Working within different contexts, ranging from art galleries to clubs, festivals and theaters, I want to investigate the multiple possibilities of dynamic new media art." - Wouter Smit
Recent projects by PK8 STUDIO include the visual content & decor creation for music/dance festival ‘La Cultural’ in Barcelona, an interactive light & sound installation for 'The New Current' during Art Rotterdam 2022 and most recently multiple audiovisual art installations in collaboration with Cem Berendsen during ADE2022 and for the December/NewYears shows at nightclub ‘De School’ in Amsterdam.
"In his work, Wouter Smit sets out to rediscover the analog signal in its poetic significance. He simultaneously humanizes and mythologizes digital media set ups by transforming them by means of analog signal processing and transduction. By offering the visitors of his installations and performative work an immersive meditational space he provokes a stretching and expansion of their sensory perception. This expansion into an open space fuels a rethinking of modern day media systems and the immersion within them. “How to re-address the connection between the analog and the digital?
